Every year, 35,000 people spend the last days of their lives in German hospices. Those who live here are seriously and terminally ill and will die. Outsiders might assume that this is a place full of heaviness and sadness. But this idea quickly broadens when you get to know people in hospices. For several months, the MEDIENWERKSTATT was able to accompany the people and life in the Erlangen hospice on Ohmplatz. One of around 260 inpatient adult hospices in Germany. The resulting documentary film portrays people who find a final home here and who, as guests, experience individual support and sensitive care. Nursing staff who report having enough time, job satisfaction and appreciation at work. The art therapist and music therapist who use creativity to help through difficult times. Grateful relatives and committed volunteers. Celebrations and deaths, laughter and tears, life and death: everything that we were able to capture in touching footage is part of the hospice. The people there are keen to show the whole spectrum and thereby help to remove the taboo. Their stories tell of life right up to the end.
