Letters to a Young Poet, by Rainer Maria Rilke, is the newest release from Antofágica! In 1903, young Franz Xaver Kappus wanted to be a poet and decided to write a letter to Rainer Maria Rilke asking for guidance. At that time, Rilke was already a respected poet and the two began an exchange of letters that lasted for many years. Amidst travels, festive periods and periods of extreme seclusion, Rilke's letters act as a kind of anchor, while master and disciple navigate through their own experiences. Going beyond practical advice on how to be a poet, Rilke reflects on existence, literature and the union between these two forces — above all, he offers Kappus ways to get around and, above all, face life. The Antofágica edition, with abstract paintings by Manon Bourgeade, is more than just a notebook of inspiration for those who want to write: it is an invitation to interact with the letters and stimulate creativity. The book features a direct translation from German by Erlon José Paschoal and an introduction by poet and artist Ricardo Aleixo. Stephanie Borges, winner of the IV Cepe National Literature Prize, writes a sensitive letter addressed to the reader, and writer and visual artist Francisco Mallmann weaves a poetic essay full of reflections and questions about the impact and strength of these letters. Flávia Trocoli, professor of Literary Theory at UFRJ, writes a response full of intersections and artistic evocations addressed to Rilke. ► Get your copy of “Letters to a Young Poet” by Rainer Maria RIlke: https://amzn.to/43NZlrb ► Learn about Antofágica’s first course, Journey through Russian Literature.
