Our shop is participating in a project to protect Japanese silk. After the Meiji Restoration, Japan became wealthy and strong through the silk industry, and established its position as a modern nation. Japanese silk once boasted world-class quality and production volume, but now it is becoming very scarce. This time, in order to learn about Japanese silk culture, we prepared a reeling machine and tried to extract raw silk from cocoons. When we tried, we found that there were various steps and many difficult parts. Currently, the only silk factory in Japan that operates year-round is Usui Silk Mill in Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture. We hope that you will experience the wonderfulness of Japanese silk and support it as an indispensable industry.
