To measure the current consumption, we use the multimeter in the ampere function. Setting up the common multimeter for this measurement is not very difficult, just position the selector switch to the 10A position, place the black test lead in the COM hole and the red test lead in the 10A hole and that's it, the equipment is configured to measure up to 10 amps. What can cause a little confusion is the testing method and placement of the test leads. Unlike voltage, current needs to flow through the measuring equipment, so instead of placing the test leads in parallel with the positive and negative terminals, they should be placed in series. For example: to measure the energy consumption of a light bulb, the negative pole must be connected to the negative terminal of the system, and the positive pole must be interrupted by connecting the red probe to the positive wire and the black probe to the terminal where the positive wire would be on the bulb. This way, the bulb will turn on and the multimeter will show on the display the amount of amps that are flowing through the circuit. It is very important to be careful when finishing the test and to return the red probe to the voltage test position, because if the voltage measurement is accidentally made in parallel with the battery but with the red probe connected to the 10A hole, the multimeter will burn out.
