In 1913, Mrs Glower enters Phileas Graidy's house. The quick-witted and misanthropic professor of mathematics and applied astrophysics quickly realizes that he is facing a special challenge. Completely unwelcome and armed only with a feather duster, she begins to question his quirks and principled habits bit by bit. In search of the formula that turns chance into a calculable object, the professor develops his own personal form of chaos theory, the result of which his housekeeper promptly eliminates. In a heated argument, he dismisses Mrs Glower, who unfortunately falls down the stairs the next moment.
