Hello everyone. This is JR East Tabata Control Center. This time, we will be reporting on the driving of the "Ueno Station - Takasaki Line Opening 140th Anniversary Commemorative Train" that was operated on July 28, 2023. The train must be operated from the front driver's cab of the front car, but since the ground level platform at Ueno Station is a dead-end type, the locomotive cannot be changed. For this reason, only trains running between Ogu Station, where the depot is located, and Ueno Station can be driven by the driver at the front of the passenger car by using the whistle signal and through brake operation, and the speed can be increased up to 45 km/h. A few decades ago, when there were many passenger trains running, this was an everyday sight, but now it has become a rare sight that can only be seen on the special train, the sleeper express Cassiopeia, and passenger trains at events like this one. In particular, unlike the Cassiopeia passenger cars, the 12-series passenger cars we are delivering this time are not equipped with brake devices or whistles for propulsion, so the propulsion driver connects a device box called a "propulsion valve" equipped with brake devices and whistles to the brake pipe of the passenger car to operate the car. We filmed a driving operation scene different from the Cassiopeia's propulsion operation from inside the passenger compartment, so please watch until the end. * Regarding subtitles, white background = propulsion driver, red text = locomotive driver * The cow in the thumbnail is the official character "Hataushi-kun".
