Former minister José Dirceu believes that the left “is not doing very well” and faces the challenge of growing in the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate. In an interview with Rádio Jangadeiro BandNews FM 101.7, he defended the reconstruction of the PT: “we need to embark on a new era”. “We are not doing well. Judging by the results of 2022 and 2024, we are not doing well. We are doing well because we defeated Bolsonarism, the attempted coup by the far left, we built a broad front, we elected Lula, who turned the page on authoritarianism, obscurantism, and denialism. In this sense, it was a great step forward. But, at the same time, in terms of legislative elections, we did not do well. So, the left, the progressives, the democrats, face a great challenge: growing in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate”, he stated. When defending a reconstruction of the Workers’ Party, Dirceu pointed out that the party controls important states, such as Ceará and Bahia, but needs to act in the South and Southeast. “The PT is going to hold a major internal debate now. I hope that more than 1 million members can vote in the direct election and make a new reading of the world, of the moment we are living in Brazil, of the historical period and of the tasks that lie ahead, including the reconstruction of our party. We have been through difficult years. But now, we need to embark on a new phase”. This year, the party will hold internal elections for the succession of the national leadership. The result of the 2024 municipal elections – when the Centrão and the right wing increased the number of city halls to be led – raised the alarm about the need to modulate the discourse. FUTURE OF THE EX-MINISTER Last December, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) closed two cases in which the former minister was responding to the investigations of Operation Lava Jato. With the decision, Dirceu can regain his political rights and run in the 2026 elections. #JornalJangadeiro #JoséDirceu #ReconstruçãoPT #JJFeed #JJPolitics
