Park Gyu-hyun was born in Sanoe, Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do, and grew up there. In 1998, he majored in creative writing at the Graduate School of Social Education at Myongji University and received a master's degree (in studies on Yoon Heung-gil's novels). In 1990, his short story "The House on the Cliff" was selected for the quarterly magazine "Literature and Criticism" as a new writer's submission, and in 1991, his short story "Notes on the Wall, or Practice of Despair" was selected for the Gyeongin Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest. The short story collections include 『Walking Moon』, 『Swaying Land』, 『This is How We Flow』, and 『Lecture Documents』, and the full-length novels include 『Love Song or Note of Despair』 and 『The Age of Separation』.
