The documentary film retraces, through the story of the Historia Langobardorum by Paolo Diacono and through interviews with eminent historians, archaeologists, art historians and exceptional testimonials (Toni Capuozzo, Vincenzo Cerami, Philippe Daverio, Giuseppe D'Avino, Maurizio Mastrini, Omar Pedrini, Peppino Principe), the seven Italian places included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a serial site: "The Lombards in Italy. Places of Power (568-774 AD)". The story is a journey through the seven sites that still today show tangible signs of the profound transformation that took place in Italy during the two centuries of Lombard domination: Cividale del Friuli with its Lombard temple, the castrum of Castelseprio-Torba, the complex of San Salvatore in Brescia, Benevento with the church of Santa Sofia, Monte Sant'Angelo with its ancient sanctuary of St. Michael, Spoleto with the church of San Salvatore and the magnificent temple on the Clitunno in Campello. The documentary won the “Città di Rovereto-Archeologia Viva” award at the 24th Edition of the International Archaeological Film Festival of Rovereto and the jury prize during the 11th Edition of the Archaeological Film Festival of Agrigento.
