Last Tuesday, February 28, 2023, the last installment of the historic debt, resulting from loans that financed its construction, was paid. According to the hydroelectric plant's website, the last payments were made to Eletrobras and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), in the amount of 115 million dollars. After almost 50 years, Itaipu has proven to be a project of excellence, producing around 8% of the electricity consumed in Brazil and 85% of the energy consumed in Paraguay. In recent years, works financed by the hydroelectric plant have stood out, such as the Integration Bridge, the second bridge between Brazil and Paraguay.
