Cempasúchil flowers are a tall centerpiece or offering for Day of the Dead. But they can also be eaten! #cheforopeza #diademuertos #richandhealthy #recipes #mexicancuisine If you have potted cempasúchil, take advantage of the petals of this beautiful flower (If you had your flowers in water, it is NOT recommended to consume only the potted ones) Step by step and ingredients Atole 1½ cups organic cempasúchil flowers 1 cup water 6 cups milk 4 tablespoons cornstarch 1 stick of cinnamon ½ cup brown sugar Get the petals of the cempasúchil flower, it is best to get organic flowers otherwise they may have pesticides. Place the petals in a blender with 1 cup of water and blend for two minutes or until completely integrated. Separate one cup of milk and dissolve the corn dough. Heat the rest of the milk along with the cinnamon and brown sugar. Once it boils and the sugar dissolves, add the marigold water and the milk with corn dough. Heat until completely thickened. Serve as a side dish for bread of the dead and enjoy. Quesadillas 8 Corn tortillas (if they are handmade, much better) 1 cup of Oaxaca cheese, crumbled 2 tablespoons of washed and disinfected marigold flower petals 4 epazote leaves 1 onion, julienned Place the corn tortillas on a griddle and heat for a few minutes. Meanwhile, crumble the Oaxaca cheese and place a little on each tortilla. Arrange a couple of julienned onions and a small epazote leaf on each one. Add a few marigold petals on top and close. Heat until the cheese melts and serve with the sauce of your choice.
