Installing a sliding glass door is not difficult and can be done in half a day. However, you should definitely find someone to help you. The door is heavy - it should only be moved by two people. First, you must decide whether the sliding glass door is to be installed on a wall opening where the existing frame is to remain in place. In this case, an additional spacer profile is required to increase the distance between the wall and the guide rail so that the sliding door slides past the frame. If there is no frame or if it is to be dismantled before installing the sliding glass door, no spacer profile is required and the sliding door runs closer to the wall. Then it starts: unpack and sort the material, clean the glass surfaces and the carriage can be carefully attached to the glass door - ideally using a torque wrench. Then the height of the first drill hole for the support rail is determined by looking at the assembly instructions. Drill, dowel, screw - then the support rail can be aligned with the spirit level and the remaining drill holes can be made. If the support rail is hanging securely on the wall, the guide rail can be attached to it. Or the spacer profile and guide rail if the frame is retained. Now slide the runners and end stops into the rail and tighten slightly - and the door is hung. Align the runners and stops, don't forget the floor guide, attach the covers and... glue the handles on so that the glass sliding door survives its first opening without a whole handful of fingerprints. Our BAUHAUS workshop moderators Julia and Liam will explain to you what this all looks like in practice and what you need to look out for.
