Who can stop it? Who will say to him: What are you doing? 13 God will not revoke his own anger; Beneath him are the helpers of Egypt. 14 How then can I answer him or choose my words to reason with him? 15 Even if I were just, I would not answer him; rather, I would ask my Judge for mercy. 16 Even if I called him, and he answered me, I would not believe that he would listen to my voice. 17 For he crushes me with a storm and multiplies my wounds without cause. 18 It does not allow me to breathe; rather, I am fed up with bitterness. 19 If it be the strength of the mighty, he will say, Here am I; if, of justice: Who will quote me? 20 Even if I am righteous, my mouth will condemn me; although I am righteous, he will hold me to blame. 21 I am blameless, I do not consider my soul, I do not care about my life. 22 To me everything is the same; Therefore I say: He destroys both the upright and the wicked. 23 If any scourge kills suddenly, then they will laugh at the despair of the innocent. 24 The land is given into the hands of the wicked; and God still covers the faces of her judges; If he is not the cause of this, who is? 25 My days were swifter than a runner; They fled and did not see happiness. 26 They passed by like boats of reeds; like an eagle that swoops down on its prey. 27 If I say: I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad appearance and be glad; 28 yet all my pains terrify me, because I know that you will not hold me innocent. 29 I will be condemned; Why then do I labor in vain? 30 Even if I wash myself with snow water and purify my hands with caustic powder, 31 even then you will drown me in the mud, and my own clothes will abhor me. 32 For he is not a man like me, to whom I should answer by coming together to judgment. 33 There is no referee among us who can lay his hand on both of us. 34 Let him remove his rod from off me, and let not his terror make me afraid; 35 then I will speak without fearing him; otherwise it wouldn't be in me.
