※ This video is part of the <Architecture Exploration House - House of 7 Slaves, Yeobaek> broadcast on September 12, 2023. Today's house is where Professor Jeon Yeong-ae, a professor and Goethe researcher, lives. The reason she calls herself a slave for 7 people is because she never seems to finish her work. It makes sense, because Yeobaek's land is 3,200 pyeong in total. If she were to manage this place alone, 24 hours a day wouldn't be enough. You might think she built a big and spacious house on this vast land, but she says she's satisfied with just one room that's the size of a doghouse. However, there's no room that's the size of a doghouse, and there's only a house that's like a palace. However, after looking around the house properly, you'll understand what she's saying right away. There are three pavilions in Yeobaek Seowon. The first is Sijeong (時亭), which was the beginning of Yeobaek Seowon, and it's the oldest building here. The two-room pavilion called Sijeong, not Choga Samgan but Choga Igan, is a space to rest after working during the day and a space to study at night with the lights on. It is truly a model of studying day and night. And the second is Ujeong (友亭), which offers a bonus view of the pond. It is a place where foreign scholars can rest comfortably. Most of the furniture inside Ujeong is found, creating a simple yet traditional atmosphere. The last, Yejeong (藝亭), is a gallery for new artists who are just entering the world of art. Next to Yejeong is the Goethe Theater, where anyone can become the main character, whether they are a child practicing Taekwondo or a college student performing a play. Professor Jeon Yeong-ae created this space because she wanted to provide this space to those who do not have the opportunity to do so. In addition to the space for adults, there is also a space for children. The children’s library has its own systematic corner. That is, there is a children’s librarian and a children’s assistant librarian. The children’s library is a space where you can read and share books at any time. Managing this much space alone, she had no choice but to be promoted from a slave for five to a slave for seven. Also, on the last Saturday of every month, she enjoys readings with many people, or enjoys a performance of Faust at the Goethe Theater, and Professor Jeon Young-ae is always busy welcoming guests. Professor Jeon Young-ae said that she did not only give while building Yeobaekjae, but also received much more. Yeobaek is not a space that Professor Jeon Young-ae created solely by her own efforts. After a lecture in Germany, the heart of someone who told her to make her dream come true, the heart of someone who had the name of a book she had read stamped on her bankbook, and the hearts of volunteers who came as if they had made a promise gathered together to create a space called Yeobaek. As a Goethe researcher, there is also a space where her love for Goethe is visible. Professor Jeon Young-ae currently has a Goethe One-person Library and Goethe House completed, and her dream is to complete a Goethe Village, although she does not know when that will be. Let’s go explore Yeobaek, where Professor Jeon Young-ae has felt greater happiness in sharing than in having since she was young! ✔ Program name: Architectural Exploration House - 7-person slave house, Yeobaek ✔ Broadcast date: 2023.09.12 #TVViewingCholladaeDocumentary
