Happy birthday, Romanians! Happy birthday, Romania! And happy birthday to the show Machinistul! Because today, on the national day, it is 9 years since I started documenting, tab by tab, the story of Romanian cars. As they were – good, bad, original or copied, appreciated, reviled or forgotten. And in this episode I will present not only a car, but also the story that led to its conception and evolution, but also the legacy it left in the domestic automotive industry. It is an attempt to do justice and re-establish a historical truth, to raze all the stumps that have taken root and grown uncontrollably in the free world of the internet, propagating inaccurate information, in some places totally wrong. We will therefore talk about the history of IMS. An abbreviation that does not come from the State Metallurgical Enterprise, as it spread until it became a certainty. It is just a fragment of an ambiguous, poorly documented history that I will debate with the guests of this episode: Messrs. Octavian Oncioiu and Alexandru Ștefan. Passionate lovers of M-series, always eager to tinker with them, Tavi and Alex have dug up history to discover the real, clean story, without the propaganda coating with which it merged during the communist period.
