(April 2, 2019) Officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, together with police from Pho Klang Police Station, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, inspected the electrical meter transformer of a house in Soi Sipsiri 12, Pho Klang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, after officials found corruption in the electricity bill by modifying the electricity meter. The homeowner claimed that he was unaware of the modification. Mr. Ronachai Asanaphan, a level 7 technician at the Provincial Electricity Authority of Nakhon Ratchasima Province 3 (Suranaree), said that from an inspection of the electrical transformer in Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima, it was found that a 15-amp, 1-phase, 2-wire meter from the Provincial Electricity Authority had been modified by swapping the phases of the input and output wires of the meter and making a ground outside the circuit. Such actions cause the meter to run slower than it actually is. Officials measured the electrical current into the house, which was 14.75 amps, but the output current was only 0.33 amps, resulting in a loss of 12.28 amps. The electricity bill does not match the actual usage, which is considered corruption. Therefore, photos were taken as evidence. After a while (same day), when returning to the said point, it was found that it had been repaired back to the original condition. It is estimated that the perpetrator was aware of it and quickly fixed it with expertise. So, I quickly coordinated with the police officers at Pho Klang Police Station to join the inspection again. From asking the homeowner, he said that he had no knowledge of any electrical modification. However, after a preliminary inspection, the electricity authority fined 34,500 baht. However, if the offender refuses to pay the fine within the specified time, he will be prosecuted for theft.
