Dona Flor and her four siblings come from a poor family in the interior of Bahia. When she was a teenager, an aunt took one of her brothers, Antônio, to work and the boy disappeared. They spent more than 30 years trying to find Tonho's whereabouts, but Flor managed to find him. Due to extreme poverty, Flor and her siblings began to leave home, in the city of Amargosa, in the south of Bahia, to try their luck in other cities. She and her other sister, Odinéia, went to Salvador to work as maids and study. On one of Flor's trips to her hometown, she discovered that her brother Antônio had left the city with an aunt, her mother's sister, heading to the southeast with the promise of earning a lot of money. Antônio was 16 at the time, could not read and had no documents. That was when the search for Tonho's whereabouts began. They spent years and years trying to find the boy. The aunt, who had taken the boy, said that he had followed his path on a truck to the southeast. Through word of mouth, Flor began to find out where he had been and also the name of a girl who knew who had taken the boy to Rio de Janeiro. The problem is that she only had the nickname of this girl... That's when she spent six months calling the numbers in the phone book every single day looking for her. And she found her! In the meantime, almost 30 years had passed since Flor had started searching, mainly so that her mother, who was already elderly and no longer believed that her son was alive, could be at peace. With the information the woman gave her over the phone, Flor discovered that her brother was married, had seven children and lived in Campos dos Goytacazes. She couldn't go there, but she sent him a letter saying that they had been looking for him for years. When Antônio received the letter, he felt ill and was helped by the community, so emotional was he. He called his sister and his emotion was even greater. The day after the letter, he got ready to return to Salvador and reunite with his family. They made the trip by bus and everyone heard the story. When the bus arrived at the bus station, the party could be heard from afar. 30 years. Flor had been trying all this time without ever giving up to find her brother. The family was reunited again, and they were finally able to celebrate the holidays with everyone together, including their mother's 90th birthday. Until their mother passed away at the age of 99, they stayed together and Antônio was able to catch up and still take care of the person he had been away from for so long.
