The end of a cycle requires us to have psychic, emotional and affective devices to be able to deal with the feeling of emptiness or sadness, or even guilt, or with the pain that remains after something falls apart. Be it the end of a romantic relationship, the loss of a loved one, a job, the farewell of someone we love to a distant country, or the departure of our children from home. How can we face the pain of a breakup and transform it into a starting point for personal renewal? The discussion is not limited to the end of a relationship, but also to the fact of being alone. How can we delve into the complexities of resilience, how can we learn to get up after the end of something, an abandonment, a breakup, a betrayal? Lecture from the module A cycle is over... what now? Curated by the CPFL Institute The flow of death and life in the cycles of our contemporary existences takes away our illusion of permanence. We are immersed in the river of the famous passage by the philosopher Heraclitus, in which it is impossible to bathe twice, because everything is in constant transformation, the river and ourselves. It is understandable that in our contemporary world, in which liquidity of relationships prevails, as Zygmunt Bauman taught us, we invariably need to resignify what we have habitually learned to be. In the season between 2007 and 2008, the CPFL Philosophical Café addressed issues whose consequences were already rapidly changing our ways of life, such as climate change, migration, violence and widespread poverty. We named this season The end of a world is not the end of the world – how will we survive the 21st century? Taking this season as a reference, and still looking back at the dramatic consequences left by the recent pandemic that we are facing, this unprecedented series of recordings of the Café in June 2024 is guided by the idea that the end of a cycle does not necessarily mean the point where everything ends. The end of a cycle can bring the pain of rupture and insecurity about the future, as in the transition from youth to adulthood, from one job to another, from singlehood to married life – or vice versa, in the case of separations. But the end of cycles can also be the catalyst for intensive renewals. How can we prepare ourselves for the vivid uncertainties of ruptures that plague our lives, but at the same time point to the opening of new cycles on the horizon? How can we strengthen resilience in the face of ruptures and transform it into power to build positive paths for personal and collective reinvention? Will we survive the intense cycles of life in the 21st century? Subscribe to the channel and click on the bell to be notified of news! Follow TV Cultura on social media!
