The day after Donald Trump's victory in the American presidential election on Wednesday, November 6, former socialist Foreign Minister (1997-2002) Hubert Védrine sees in this second term the expression of a "tidal wave" against "progressivism" that originated in the 1960s. This Trump "tidal wave", in his words, questions "the future of the Democratic Party" in the coming years, while the elected president also has a majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives following the November 5 election. Then, the former Foreign Minister analyzed the consequences of the American election on the ongoing conflicts, in Ukraine but also in the Middle East. In Ukraine, Hubert Védrine expects "a development towards a kind of stalemate", ruling out immediate negotiations between the belligerents. As for the Middle East, the former minister considers Trump's election as "good news" for Benjamin Netanyahu.
