Guys, here I mentioned a few, but if you open the NBR-5410 standard in the conductor sizing section you will notice that there are a series of rules for correctly sizing the conductor. If you have a cable that will carry a current of 34A for example, it is not enough to just go to the standard table and pick a cable that has the capacity to support this current. First we need to know some details: What temperature this cable will be exposed to; How many circuits will be grouped together with this cable; What is the type of installation (conduit, tray, buried, etc.); What are the characteristics of the cable (PVC, EPR, XLPE). All these questions are answered by the NBR-5410 standard which has a lot of tables that help us find correction factors for the cable current according to each type of installation. After applying the factors and finding the new current “Corrected” current of the cable means that you can go to the table and find the correct cable for the installation. We must be careful not to confuse “corrected current” with the design current. They are completely different from each other: Design current – ​​This is the current that will pass through the cable to supply the load. This current is found by knowing the electrical characteristics of the load (power, voltage, etc.). Corrected current – ​​This is the current that serves as a parameter to facilitate the location of the correct cable in the standard table after all the correction factors have been applied. This design current will not pass through the cable and cannot be considered as the cable current. It is not enough to just take a table and look at the cable current according to its cross-section. This is wrong. We need to know the 5 methods presented above to properly size the conductor for a given load.
