In the meantime, I will give brief information about the concepts of acid and base. Then we will measure acidity. Let's briefly talk about the concepts of acidity and basicity. Compounds that give hydrogen plus positive effects to the environment when dissolved in water or substances that increase the number of hydrogen ions in the environment they are in are called acids. Hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, acetic acid (vinegar acid), formic acid, etc. Compounds that release OH ions into the environment when dissolved or substances that increase the number of OH ions in the environment they are in are called bases. Sodium hydroxide (caustic), potassium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, ammonia, etc. Let's talk about the pH scale. The pH scale has values between zero and 14, seven is in the middle. Compounds with a pH value between zero and seven are acids, while compounds with a value between 7 and 14 are bases. 7 is neutral. Acidity increases as the pH goes down from seven, and basicity increases as the pH goes up from seven. Strong acids have values like zero in their concentrated solutions, and acidity decreases and pH increases as the solution is diluted. The pH in acids such as acetic acid is around 5-6. The pH in solutions of strong bases such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide is close to 14. I have a pH scale in my hand. If our pH measuring papers match these, it shows that it is acidic. If they match these, it shows that the solution is basic. We will use two devices to measure acidity. The first of these is a device that works with solar energy and measures the moisture, light level and pH of the soil. You can easily get it from the internet. The second is pH measuring papers, they have a certain scale. According to this scale, the colors formed on the paper dipped in the solution will give information about the pH of the environment. We will do experiments in different parts of our garden bed. Let's start by dipping it into our soil. At the same time, we will take a soil sample from our garden bed and wet it. As you can see, our pH meter shows a little over seven in our pH meter. In other words, your soil is a little basic. I have been pouring wood ashes from the fireplace into my garden beds since last year, which causes the acidity to decrease, in other words, the pH increases. In the experiment we did on another part of the soil, the pH shows seven, in other words, our soil is neutral. We will use these pH measuring papers to verify this measurement. We completely dip this pH measuring paper into the solution and wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Our pH paper took the colors you see. We compare this paper with the colors on the scale. The pH matches the colors that are seven. Our acidity measuring papers show pH seven. If our solution was basic, we would encounter colors close to 14, if it was acidic, we would encounter colors close to zero. It is understood from the measurements we made that our soil is the same and neutral everywhere. Today we saw how to measure soil equality with these devices. I hope this video was useful for you. #village life #life in the village #migration to the village #return to the village #organic garden #organic gardening #ecological agriculture #hobby garden #organic agriculture #how to measure acidity #how to eliminate soil acidity #soil acidity #how to measure soil acidity #soil amendment
