Psychologist Rosely Sayão answers a question from a mother whose 11-year-old son has not accepted the idea of growing up. The psychologist says that this phase in a child's life corresponds to the time of farewell from childhood to adolescence and that children experience this stage as if it were a loss. "Children are afraid of moving away from their parents and losing their constant care," says Rosely. Feeling strange during this rite of passage – from childhood to adolescence – is natural, but "remember that the strangeness is felt by both the parents and the children," warns the psychologist. "As adults, we can join in the fun, sometimes in a more playful way, sometimes in a more serious way," recommends Rosely.
