LINK TO THE VIDEO THAT EXPLAINS THE CONVERSION BETTER - How to convert BTU to Watts the right way... Hello my dear friends of electricity, is everything okay there? DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO SIZE AN AIR CONDITIONING CIRCUIT? DID YOU BY CHANCE BOUGHT AN AIR CONDITIONER AND ARE YOU GOING TO INSTALL IT YOURSELF? OR ARE YOU AN ELECTRICIAN AND CAME HERE JUST TO CLEAR UP THIS DOUBT BEFORE CARRYING OUT THE INSTALLATION? WELL, LEAVE HERE IN THE COMMENTS BELOW WHY YOU ARE WATCHING THIS VIDEO. WELCOME TO THE LEARNING ELECTRICAL IM CHANNEL, I'M IVANILSON MEDEIROS AND IN TODAY'S VIDEO I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU THE STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO SIZING AN AIR CONDITIONING ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT. WHAT IS THE IDEAL WIRING AND WHAT IS THE IDEAL CIRCUIT BREAKER. SO YOU DON'T HAVE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR INSTALLATION. BEFORE WE START, I'M GOING TO ASK YOU TO CHECK IF YOU'RE ALREADY SUBSCRIBED TO THE CHANNEL. IF YOU'RE NOT YET, SUBSCRIBE AND ACTIVATE THE NOTIFICATION BELL. DON'T FORGET TO LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO WITH YOUR FRIENDS SO THEY CAN LEARN TOO. LET'S GO TO CLASS. TO BEGIN SIZING, WE WILL NEED SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT, WHICH ARE: VOLTAGE: WHETHER IT IS 127 OR 220V; AND THE POWER OF THE EQUIPMENT IN WATTS. TO KNOW THE POWER IN WATTS WE WILL NEED TO CONVERT BTU TO WATT AND TO CONVERT BTU TO WATTS WE WILL USE THE FOLLOWING FORMULA BTUxCONSTANT/COP OR EER BUT WHAT ARE BTU, CONSTANT AND COP? BTU- IS THE UNIT OF MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL POWER OF REFRIGERATION. THE CONSTANT IS THE RATIO BETWEEN THE POWER OF REFRIGERATION IN WATTS/THE POWER OF REFRIGERATION IN BTU, IN OTHER WORDS, WE HAVE THE ELECTRICAL POWER OF REFRIGERATION IN WATTS AND THE THERMAL POWER OF REFRIGERATION IN BTU (ATTENTION PERSONAL AT THIS TIME WE MUST TAKE CARE WHEN INTERPRETING INFORMATION ON TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MANUFACTURERS. THE POWER OF REFRIGERATION IN WATT IS STILL NOT THE ELECTRICAL POWER THAT WE WILL USE TO SIZING THE CIRCUIT) AND THE OTHER ITEM IN THE FORMULA COP OR EER IS THE ACRONYM FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY FACTOR, WHICH MAY VARY DEPENDING ON THE TECHNOLOGY USED BY THE MANUFACTURER. LET'S LOOK AT THE NUMBERS? BTU = In our example we will use 12000 Constant = 0.293 and COP 2.95. So we have: 12000x0.293/2.95 which gives us a total of 1191W. Now that we have the power in Watts we need to find out what the electric current is! And for that we will use another formula. The current is = Power / By Voltage, in our example we will use 220V. So we have: 1191/220 = 5.41A Now that we have all the data we can proceed with the sizing. The equipment data is: VOLTAGE = 220V POWER = 1191W CURRENT = 5.41A To choose the conductors, that is, the electrical wires for this air conditioner, we can use a current carrying capacity table. We have the table there and you can see that in theory a 0.5mm cross-section cable would be enough to support the current of our air conditioner. However, we must remember that the air conditioner is a TUE (Specific Use Outlet) and the standard establishes that for socket circuits the minimum cross-section is 2.5mm. So, let's choose the 2.5mm wire. And the circuit breaker? How can we choose? Remember that the circuit breaker is a protection for the circuit, that is, for the electrical cables and not for the equipment. However, we can act with common sense. According to the Table, the 2.5mm cable supports up to 24A, we could easily use the 20A circuit breaker. We know that TUE circuits are those with a current greater than 10A, in this case the air conditioner had a current lower than 10A and for this reason we can use a 10A circuit breaker. Even though the circuit breaker is not to protect the equipment, in this case it is closer to the nominal current and can prevent greater damage caused by a defect in the equipment. So guys, our sizing was as follows: 2.5mm cables 10A bipolar circuit breaker Guys, I showed you the step by step of how to size the electrical circuit for air conditioning. However, it is worth remembering that many manufacturers provide this information on the equipment label, look at this model that I got from the internet. In this case, you can see that it already mentions the current and indicates the 10A circuit breaker. Read carefully the manuals provided by the manufacturers, not only for air conditioning but for everything you are going to install and need to size the circuit. I hope this subject was clear, and if you liked it, don't forget to leave your like. A hug and see you in the next video!
