In 1925, the Italian fascist government of Benito Mussolini granted the government of Ahmet Zog a soft loan of 50 million gold francs. Monitored by the Italians themselves, this considerable amount of money was used to build the road system of Albania. Thanks to this loan, we Albanians inherit almost the entire road system that we have today, with the possible exception of the new Milot-Kukës segment. But why did the Italians pour this considerable amount of money? Was it a generous aid to the brotherly Albanian people, or was there a completely diabolical purpose in between? History would show that this money had a military destination from the beginning. Almost all the roads that Mussolini built in Albania were arteries connecting the Albanian lowlands with the Greek and Yugoslav borders. After invading Albania in 1939, Mussolini would use these routes to attack Greece in 1940 and Yugoslavia in 1941./abcnews.al For the latest information click: Web: http://abcnews.al/ Facebook: / abcnews.al Instagram: / abcnewsal Subscribe to our channel on: youtube: / abcalbanian
