A squib is someone who is born into a wizarding family, but does not possess any magical powers. An example is Argus Filch, the caretaker and janitor at Hogwarts, or Arabella Figg, Harry Potter's neighbour at Privet Drive. A squib is basically the opposite of Muggle-born wizards. However, squibs are even rarer, as the magical gene is dominant and very resilient. We know that squibs cannot study magic at Hogwarts, but unlike Muggles, they can be in contact with the magical community if they want to, as they have access to certain magical objects and creatures that can help them. But how magical are they really? After all, they come from a magical family. Can they see ghosts, for example? Could they brew a potion? Did Mrs. Figg really see Dementors, as she claimed at Harry Potter's trial in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix? How closely tied to the wizarding world can they be?
