How did our master Moses die and why does God revive him every night in his grave? - Sheikh Badr Al-Mashari The story of Moses, the magicians, and his magic wand. Where did he get it from and where is it now? It was the golden age of magic. It was in the time of Moses, peace be upon him, when magic spread widely and its methods and techniques diversified. The number of magicians was estimated in the thousands. These magicians excelled in their magic to a great extent, to the point of being terrifying. They were the most important helpers of Pharaoh in his rule and getting rid of his opponents, so Allah Almighty supported his prophet Moses, peace be upon him, with the miracle of magic, and now let us learn where he got his magic staff from and how the conflict between the magicians and Moses, peace be upon him, was when Moses came to the Pharaoh of Egypt and addressed him saying: (I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds), Pharaoh said to him: You lied, so Moses said: (It is worthy of me and it is my right to tell about God except what is true and honest, and I have come to you with a conclusive argument from God and it is evidence of my honesty, so call the children of Israel to return with me to the Holy Land which is their homeland and the birthplace of their fathers), Pharaoh said: I do not believe you and I will not obey you in what you ask, so you must show your love and prove your prophethood if you are honest in your claim. So Moses threw his staff and it turned into a huge snake that began crawling towards Pharaoh and opened its big mouth to devour him. Then there was a great uproar and Pharaoh fled and his people followed him and a large number of them died. Pharaoh took refuge in his palace and shouted: O Moses, take him and I will believe in you and send the Children of Israel with you. So Moses took him and he became a staff as he had been before. After Pharaoh calmed down and his mind was settled, the leaders of his people said to him: This is a master of magic and is skilled at it. He has captured the eyes of the people with one of his tricks until they thought the staff was a snake. Here, Pharaoh and his entourage feared that Moses would win people over with his magic, which would be a reason for the collapse of his kingdom and the expulsion of him and his people from their land. When they consulted about his matter, they finally decided to bring the most skilled magicians to meet Moses, as they believed that the magicians were more skilled than Moses in magic and that they would defeat him. Pharaoh promised them a great reward and a high position if they defeated Moses. They were a large number of skilled magicians, so much so that it was said that they were eighty thousand, and it was said seventy thousand, and it was said thirty-some thousand. In Surah Taha, God Almighty said on the tongue of Pharaoh and his people: (He said, “Have you come to us to expel us from our land with your magic, O Moses? So we will bring you magic like it. So make between us and you an appointment which we will not miss, neither we nor you, a place apart.”) Moses accepted the challenge and set for them the Day of Decoration (which was one of their festivals) as the appointment to meet them. When the magicians threw their ropes and staffs, they bewitched the eyes of the people, as if these ropes and staffs had turned into many snakes filling the earth in a terrifying way, which caused fear and terror to the people, including Moses, peace be upon him. God Almighty said: (So Moses felt fear within himself. Fear not, for you are the superior. And throw down what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have made. What they have made is only the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed, no matter where he comes from.) (So Moses threw down his staff, and behold, it swallowed up what they were fabricating.) Moses’ staff turned once again into a huge snake that began to devour all the snakes and serpents that were filling the valley until it did not leave anything of them without swallowing it, and this was under the hearing and sight of the crowds of people gathered and amidst the astonishment of the magicians, thanks to God Almighty... Then the magicians knew that what Moses had brought was not magic like their magic, but rather the divine power, so they fell down in prostration to God and believed in the Lord of the Worlds. As for where he got the stick from or where it is, we do not know anything correct about this topic. Some storytellers mentioned that Adam brought it down from heaven, and some of them mentioned that an angel gave it to Moses when he went to Madyan, and others mentioned that he took it from his wife's father, and that its father was Shu'aib, peace be upon him, but none of that has been proven from a proven source.
