It was first investigated by the Japanese colonial government in December 1917, and 100 years later, it was re-excavated in 2017. The investigation results concluded that the owner of the tomb of the great king “must be King Mu of Baekje.” Then why was King Mu buried in Iksan? Why was his posthumous name King Mu? King Mu, a strong monarch who instilled confidence in the people who were discouraged after the death of King Seong through constant attacks on Silla, and who made Iksan a new outpost for the revival of Baekje by building the royal palace and Mireuksa Temple, thereby making Baekje culture and art flourish. Through the life of King Mu, we look into the political situation of the Korean Peninsula in the 7th century and reexamine the significance of King Mu in Baekje history.
