These two porcelain plates lay in our sales staff's cupboard for 50 years. What mother and daughter don't know when they find them: King Charles X of France once ate from this service! Expert Bianca knows the whole story: The hand-painted dessert plates were made between 1824 and 1832 in the French state manufactory Sèvres and are part of a service that includes a total of 205 pieces. Painting one plate alone took about four months. The finished service was intended for none other than the then reigning French King Louis XVIII. But because the plates were too expensive even for the kings of the time, the French Foreign Ministry bought them in 1852. Today, parts of the service are extremely rare to find in the art trade, notes Bianca. One of the plates is currently in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. For our dealers, this means: These plates are the most valuable porcelain they have ever held in their hands!
