Quick summary of the first day at the Hard Défi Tour 2024. We start in the 260 series, so already 260 people in front of us. The first 10 km, we find ourselves in a queue on the first climb. We decide to bypass it and we hit a big climb to catch up with the track. Of the four, there was Nico who was riding without a bottle on this climb. Without traction, we left a few drops of sweat there. Then, it's going well on the track until the next traffic jam, CP1. There are about 10 CPs per day to hope to be a finisher. CP1 ends up being neutralized, which allows us to get around the difficulty, because the CPs are often placed in difficult areas, so that we can't validate them other than by passing them. We set off again on the tracks, it's going well, but Ludo and Nico don't catch up with us. We stop, call them and Nico tells us that he has a flat tire. The mechanic had forgotten a tire lever in the wheel and it went through the tire. A bit of American tape, a new tube, and off we go again. We lose 40 minutes and we ride with the 350 bibs, the day looks set to be long. With Loïc, we attack hard. Many ride fast on the road but are average on the track. We overtake a good pack more or less serenely then we arrive in the queue of CP3, where we spend 2 hours before being able to try our luck. Ludo and Nico have bypassed the queue and finally, CP3 is neutralized. We are among the last to pass. A beautiful slab on a slope on a single on the side of a bank, it goes perfectly. From there, we are divided into two groups for almost the whole day. At 2:30 p.m., we arrive at the lunch break, we eat lightly and we set off again immediately. In the afternoon, it's track and singles, we have a great time. I have a few big falls. Loïc, himself, rides even harder, gets into a fight with guys who are pushing hard, then waits for me at the next section of road. We reform the team after the CP of the time barrier, we are good to finish, at least on paper. We have nearly 110 km left, it is 5:20 p.m., we are good. We ride together but we can't get along, we bump into each other, fatigue is making itself felt and we don't ride in the same way. Loïc ends up going off on a tangent, I follow him and we ride like donkeys. The day is pretty smooth without any major difficulties. 15 km from the finish, I feel like a brake at the rear but I tell myself that I will take stock at the finish. I attack a section of road in second, the bike is unrideable. I attack the track despite everything but I feel like I'm going to go off the rails. Loïc is far ahead and the guys far behind. I find a log and start to remove the wheel, it smells like burning and it smokes when pressing on the tire. The guys finally arrive with the right tools and a participant lends me his wrench to loosen the wheel. We are in a daze of fatigue, we do what we can to go as quickly as possible. Ludo removes and reassembles the tire super fast. Night falls, we can't see anything, the last CP is on a descent with a nice step, I can't see anything, I can just keep up with the guys. We arrive, we eat and we change Nico's tire who survived the makeshift repair. End of the first day, it is 00:30, the alarm goes off at 7:00 for an 8:00 departure.
