Hautefort Castle is located in the commune of Hautefort, in Périgord Noir, in the French department of Dordogne in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is listed as a historical monument. In the Middle Ages, this castle was a fortified castle consisting of a central tower, surrounded by four defensive towers connected by walls. In the 17th century, the castle was completely redesigned and the fortifications gave way to an architecture reminiscent of that of Paris and the castles of the Loire. In 1968, a major fire ravaged the central body of the castle. Since then, work is still in progress and the upper levels are not yet open to visitors.
