Originally from Erzurum, Haluk Tolga İlhan was born in Ankara. He graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Opera Singing in 2002 and began working at Ankara State Opera and Ballet in 1992. He has been working at Istanbul State Opera and Ballet since 2010. He has performed in many roles including the leading roles in the operas The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, The Bat, The Abduction from the Seraglio and The Merry Widow and won the best tenor award at the Opera Reading Club of Hollywood Competition held in America. While opera formed Haluk Tolga İlhan's professional career, he sought musical distinction in folk music. He expressed historical realities by embracing folk music and Anatolian melodies, and the songs he sang in this direction created a significant impact on social media and professional music circles. The Ervah-ı Ezelde piece sung by Haluk Tolga İlhan, who gave concerts in many parts of Turkey and Europe and is the soloist and one of the two founders of Grup Abdal, was integrated with him, and the folk music performances in his albums published under the name #Abdal were followed with admiration. Haluk Tolga İlhan contributed to the embracing of folk music, especially among the young population, with the difference he created in sound and pronunciation without distorting the essence of folk music. Dönen Dönsün Ben Dönmezem Yolumdan was the first album he released on this journey, and this album was followed by Ervah-ı Ezelde, Çerağ-ı Aşk and Hançere, and finally in 2017 he released the album Dara Duran. He continues to give voice lessons, which he gave at the Boğaziçi University Alumni Association, in the form of workshops at the Haluk Tolga İlhan Music Center, which he opened under his own name.
