Guerrilla battalion one was transferred to Ilomantsi in June 1941 and established a field guard station in Longonvaara, Ilomantsi on July 2, 1941. The attack on the old cross-border villages of Vellivaara and Lehmivaara in Ilomantsi began on July 10th, but Valter Vallin's I/JR 126, which was in front, managed to stop the attack on the border line. At the end of July, the guerrillas were moved to the Louhivaara and Lutikkavaara area of Ilomantsi, in place of JP 5, JP 6 and JP 1, they were moved from Ilomantsi to Korpiselkä. At the beginning of August, Major Viljo Kivikko, the commander of the Ilomants border company, became the commander of the Sissi battalion. The guerrillas advanced through Ilomantsi Kuolismaa and Kuuttivaara to Salmijärvi and from there to Vegarus. From Vegarus, the guerillas were transported to Porajärvi near Kostamus, where the men fought until the beginning of October. In October, the advance was continued to the east of Porajärvi via Soutajärvi and Juustjärvi to Käppäselka, and from there the division advanced, fighting hard battles, to Karhumäki by December 7, 1941. Guerrillas remained until the end of 1941 on backup missions in Karhumäki. In January 1942, the guerrillas were moved to the front line in the area of Voljärvi and Hiisjärvi. On February 12, 1942, Guerrilla Battalion One was disbanded and its men were transferred to Light Division Eight and the Border Jääkär Battalion 5 established in Seesjärvi. Lieutenant Colonel Viljo Kivikko was appointed as its commander. As a source for this video, I have used my book Taistellen Karhumäkei, the video is an abridgement of my book.
