Death and the awareness of finitude heavily influence our existence. They are an integral part of it, yet they often remain a taboo subject. Why? Because death is scary and painful, while man has a natural inclination to avoid pain. But is it possible to ensure that death and the experience of mourning are instead the driving force of positive change? Valentina Carraro was born in Verona, but spent her entire childhood in Belgium, where she attended the European School in a highly multicultural context. She traveled a lot with her family and returned to Italy permanently at the age of 17, obtaining the Baccalauréat Européen. Attracted by entrepreneurial activity, she soon abandoned her university studies and began working on her own in a wide variety of fields ranging – among others – from event organization, to graphic communication, to real estate investments, which she currently deals with. At 21 she became a mother for the first time and at 34 for the second. This is the “job” to which she feels she has dedicated herself with the most passion and commitment. A restless spirit, always seeking answers to the great whys of life, for over 20 years she has followed a path of research and inner growth, which has offered her the intellectual tools to lucidly face the mourning of her daughter Gaia. In 2018, in collaboration with Manicomics Teatro and Casa Clizia APS, she produced the theatrical show “Gaia Luce”, which offers a personal reading of the experience of death and food for thought on the elaboration of mourning.
