Machado de Assis is undeniably one of the greatest names in Brazilian literature, and is also among the greats of world literary writing. The author, an icon of Brazilian Realism and known for his novels and short stories, also ventured into chronicles, publishing weekly in the Gazeta de Notícias newspaper in Rio de Janeiro between 1888 and 1889. Machado's authorship of these chronicles only came to light in 1955, as he published them under a pseudonym. Years later, the chronicles were reorganized and gave rise to the book “Bons dias”.
