"Everywhere the glint of gold" was Howard Carter's famous statement after he had his first look at the treasures in the antechamber of Tutankhamun's tomb. He could just as well have emphasized the shine of the glass, because the tomb also contained thousands upon thousands of artistic glass inlays and beads, as well as some of the most outstanding glass objects of the late Bronze Age in Egypt. On the occasion of the United Nations International Year of Glass 2022 and the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo/Egypt and the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York/USA have joined forces to produce a short film about the fascinating glass works that accompanied the young king on his journey to the afterlife over 3,300 years ago. Our special thanks go to Sandro Vannini, the Griffith Institute and the Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford/UK and especially to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt for their generous support which made this film possible.
