This week we visited the district of Desemboque, which is about 60 km from the city center of Sacramento and 485 km from the capital, Belo Horizonte. From the 19th century onwards, the gold deposits located in Desemboque began to run out and the population began to decrease drastically, reaching the current number of only 27 permanent residents. Many of the old buildings have already collapsed or been demolished, and the main historical heritage sites still standing are the two churches, built a century apart from each other. The two churches recently underwent renovations on their external facades, and their interiors are undergoing restoration work. One peculiar feature that draws visitors' attention is the presence of a cemetery right at the entrance to the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Desterro, which has some interesting explanations.
