German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said at a special session of the UN Human Rights Council about the protests in Iran: “Iranian demonstrators have neither a seat on the Human Rights Council in Geneva nor a voice in the UN. But we are doing this.” Berbock added: “That is why we have convened today’s special session on Iran, together with Iceland and 50 other allies.” The German Foreign Minister, who personally attended the Human Rights Council in Geneva, added: “The UN can take a stand against the injustice, the blows and bullets that the Iranian regime uses to suppress peaceful protests.” He also emphasized the establishment of a mechanism to investigate human rights violations by the Islamic Republic in order to hold its officials accountable.
