But in the next four months, the Congress party was defeated in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. Many veteran Congress leaders were defeated. Congress, which came on the front foot in the Lok Sabha elections, went on the back foot in just four months. In this, the fortress of many Congress leaders was mined. The new line of Congress which had given the party a new life in the Lok Sabha was defeated in the assembly elections.
