Two times two is four. That's how Mayor Leopold Scherzinger calculates when the innkeeper's daughter in his town is supposedly giving birth to quadruplets. He immediately trumpets the news around the world and immediately turns the four girls into a tourist attraction. But the whole thing is based at least in part on a misunderstanding. One of the twins was born at the same time out of wedlock to the temporary worker Rosina. Rosina then emigrates to America and leaves the twins in the care of the waiter Anton Zacherl, who eventually raises all four. When they are adults, Scherzinger fears that the young women might marry and leave town. He must prevent that at all costs, and so he draws up a tight schedule for the four of them, in which there is no room for men. But love cannot be regulated. The girls rebel and one of them gets engaged to Scherzinger's nephew Peter...
