Here is the full test of the Ford Explorer, available in Europe with the plug-in hybrid electrification of the powerful V6 with 460 HP and 825 Nm of torque. The electric motor allows the Explorer to move “zero emissions” and the driver can choose how to make the most of the battery range, choosing between EV Auto, EV Now, EV Later and EV Charge modes. When the batteries run low, the Explorer automatically switches to EV Auto mode, combining the power of the petrol engine with that of the electric motor, using recovered energy and thus optimising consumption. To fully charge the battery from an external 230-volt power source it takes less than 5 hours and 50 minutes, while, using the Ford Connected Wallbox or at a public charging station, it takes less than 4 hours and 20 minutes. The Explorer Plug-In Hybrid’s dual-motor system combines the power and torque of both engines to deliver them simultaneously on and off-road, while also being able to tow a horsebox, boat or large trailer weighing up to 5,500 pounds with ease. The advanced Intelligent All-Wheel Drive technology analyses multiple sensor inputs every 10 milliseconds, including vehicle speed, ambient air temperature, wheel slip and trailer status, to determine if additional traction is needed. Like the 10-speed automatic transmission, which further optimises fuel efficiency, Intelligent All-Wheel Drive uses adaptive learning algorithms to continuously modulate the SUV’s responses for exhilarating and refined performance. The Explorer Plug-In Hybrid’s Terrain Management System technology allows customers to adapt their driving experience to different road types and weather conditions, through the selectable driving modes (Normal, Sport, Trail, Slippery, Tow/Haul, Eco and Deep Snow and Sand). Each of them has a dedicated graphic representation on the 12.3-inch display located on the dashboard. Hill Descent Control, the system of descent assistance, supports driving in off-road conditions. Explorer takes full advantage of its imposing dimensions by offering the luxury of space for all occupants (up to 7). With almost 3 feet of headroom for all three rows and more than 5 feet of shoulder room for the occupants of the first and second rows, every passenger can enjoy the luxury of the Explorer’s interior. In addition, all occupants can benefit from the comfort features: five 12-volt power points, two USB ports for the first and second row, 12 cup holders and automatic Tri-Zone climate control. The Easy Fold Seats system with Power Raise for folding the third row seats and the new Easy Fold Seats system for those of the second row, allow for a perfectly flat load surface of 2,274 litres. The interior offers 123 litres of cargo space, inside the cabin, where occupants of all three rows can easily store personal items. Among the new features introduced to increase on-board comfort, there are heated and air-conditioned front seats with 10-way adjustment and massage function, heated second-row seats, wireless charging pad, heated steering wheel, privacy windows for both the second and third rows and, finally, a 980-watt B&O premium audio system, equipped with fourteen speakers. The Explorer Plug-In Hybrid, available in Italy in a single version, features stylistic elements that define its bold and modern design. The 20” matt black alloy wheels, satin finish of the front grille, the roof bars and the satin door frames, while inside, on the dashboard, there are wood inserts.
