Fight food waste legally and conveniently from home? It's possible! Several shops now sell expired food online that would otherwise end up in the trash - and thus save food. For PULS Reportage, Sebastian Meinberg uses the example of one provider to test how food saving works - and whether it's worth shopping there. Completely legally! This is made possible, among other things, by a start-up from Berlin that sells food across Germany that would otherwise end up in the trash. One click on the Internet and the buyer has already taken a stand against food waste and made a contribution to saving food. Saving food has probably never been so easy. For PULS Reportage, Sebastian Meinberg looked at how food saving works, where the food to be saved comes from and what it looks like. Not only expired food is saved, but also food that does not meet the norm and would otherwise have ended up in the trash due to its shape or color. The saved food is still edible. Food waste: Every year 18 million tons of food are wasted in Germany. That is more than 500,000 trucks full of garbage. From harvesting to storage to further processing of the food, 5 million tons are lost. Another two and a half million tons end up in the trash because it is not sold in wholesalers and supermarkets. Large consumers such as restaurants and canteens are responsible for around three and a half million tons of the food thrown away. But the biggest food wasters are us end consumers.
