The process of flax processing from harvesting to obtaining finished fiber consisted of the following stages: soaking, spreading, drying in barns, crushing, scutching and carding. All types of work in Zaonezhye were performed by women. In Karelia, flax cultivation and processing existed from ancient times until the middle of the 20th century. By the end of the last century, the ancient agricultural culture of growing and processing flax was almost completely lost. On Kizhi Island, all the ancient methods and technologies of growing and processing flax are carefully preserved! Oleg Skobelev, head of the sector of exposition development of traditional farming, will tell about some of them.
