We visited Fazenda Pau d'alho, on Rodovia dos Tropeiros. Built in 1817, the farm began planting coffee. In 1822, the coffee plantation was formed and João Ferreira received the illustrious visit of D. Pedro I, on the occasion of the trip on which he would proclaim the independence of Brazil. João and his son Antônio would have continued on their journey, forming the emperor's honor guard. The farm surprises those arriving by road, with its stone walls on an elevated surface, reminiscent of medieval forts. The slave quarters have a prominent position and are justified by the need to be in an airy and cool place, preserving the slaves and the high investment. Vault, mills, water wheel, warehouses, workshop, yard, large house, all designed to facilitate production. Open to visitors: Thursday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm Where to stay: Hotel Fazenda Boa Vista / hfazboavista
