Sickness and suffering were not part of God's original plan. Jesus treated sickness and suffering as an enemy and healed the sick. In the Bible we read that sometimes getting well is about getting free: He 'went about the whole country doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.' That doesn't mean that every time Jesus healed someone, the illness was due to demonic powers. But we read about it in several places.
