The Ural-4320 is a truly unique truck. This all-wheel drive three-axle truck can be found in any corner of the country, from the Arctic to the deserts. It has been produced with constant modifications since 1977. The all-terrain vehicle is widely used in the armed forces, forestry industry and mining sector. According to objective parameters and the results of numerous tests, the Ural-4320 occupies a leading position among domestic trucks in terms of cross-country ability. What are the design features that allow the Ural to overcome off-road conditions? - Let's find out. The history of the creation of one of the most brutal domestic all-wheel drive trucks with a 6x6 wheel arrangement begins long before 1977. Since the mid-1950s, NAMI specialists, as part of an order from the Ministry of Defense, were developing a truck with a good load capacity (4-5 tons) and increased cross-country ability. Under the supervision of Nikolai Korotonoshko, an experienced designer, Doctor of Technical Sciences and specialist in all-wheel drive systems, a prototype of a truck was created, which was named NAMI-020. After successful testing, it was transferred for modification and serial production to the Ural Automobile Plant in the city of Miass. There, in the early 1960s, the Ural-375 truck was created, which acquired the cabin that we are familiar with today. The Ural-4320 is the successor to the Ural-375 model, which was developed in the 1950s for the needs of the USSR Ministry of Defense and was distinguished by high cross-country ability and load capacity. However, the Ural-375 also had its drawbacks, in particular, its gasoline engine was distinguished by high fuel consumption (70-100 liters per 100 km off-road), which became especially relevant in the conditions of the fuel crisis of 1977. In this regard, it was decided to replace the gasoline engine with a more economical and environmentally friendly diesel unit with a capacity of 200 hp. As a result, the Ural-4320 appeared, which became one of the most recognizable and popular domestic trucks.
