At the Akazienhof in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, vegetables such as chard, carrots and cabbage are harvested all autumn, and winter-hardy varieties such as lettuce are also grown in the polytunnel. Everyone takes part in the gardening and all members get their share of the harvest. Margarete Schwär's farm garden in Sankt Märgen is a garden like in the good old days. It is a self-sufficient garden in which the family harvests vegetables such as beets, Brussels sprouts and beans, but which is also home to herbs and flowers. In autumn, it is mainly about harvesting and storing and preserving fruit and vegetables. Manuela Hettesheimer from Kottweiler-Schwanden has joined the slow flower movement. She "harvests" organic flowers from her field well into autumn and makes wonderful bouquets from them. The flowers are dried as a supply for the winter. And in autumn she also has to think about next spring: the flower bulbs have to go into the ground. The Tempelhof community in Kressberg has planted an edible forest garden, which now has a number of special plants. In autumn they harvest wild herb salad, horseradish leaves and nutritious roots.
