This article in the TEUTONIA series deals with the Externsteine. The focus of this first part is rock no. 1 - the grotto rock with the Deposition from the Cross relief, which hides a number of secrets that will be examined in more detail. Who created this relief and when? What is the significance of the grottos? Our ancestors knew how to observe the stars and carve clues into the stone. The solstices, the beginning of spring and autumn, and the equinoxes can be read from these rocks. And is the past, as taught in history books, actually correct? These and many other questions will be explored...
