There is an island called Dokgeodo, which is so isolated from the world because of the strong waves. Dokgeodo (獨巨島) was originally called Dokgodo (獨孤島). It is 10km away from Jindo, but because the waves are so strong, it is impossible to go anywhere, so it became called Dokgeodo, which means “secluded island.” When the waterway opens, even the lonely Dokgeodo makes friends. Tanhangdo is an island within an island of Dokgeodo, located to the south of Dokgeodo. There are four households, but there is only one house with traces of people, the house where grandfather Yun Un-jeung and his wife live. The grandfather, who used to fish for anchovies for 20 years when he was young, now makes a living by growing seaweed during the summer.
