100 years of Hakvoort in Monnickendam. That is the name of the summer exhibition in Waterlands Museum De Speeltoren. There is much to see in the room specially set up for this exhibition. The family history, shipbuilding during the last 100 years, beautiful photos of interiors and scale models. In 1919 Albert Klaasz Hakvoort bought the shipyard from Dirk Sz Kater. This Kater family had owned the shipyard for 300 years. Albert Hakvoort came from Urk to Monnickendam and mainly built wooden botters. Later they switched to steel fishing cutters. Nowadays in Hakvoort Shipyard famous for the very luxurious yachts for the rich of this world. In the exhibition you get an insight into the opulence of these yachts. You don't have to go all the way to Saint Tropez for it. The exhibition can be visited until 22 July, every day of the week, except Mondays.
