BBC News Indonesia gained access to interview the field commander of Kodap III of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), the military wing of the Free Papua Movement (OPM), via video call, Friday (04/10). This was Egianus' first interview for the press. Egianus Kogoya stated that he would not stop carrying out attacks on Indonesian security forces and non-Papuans, even though he claimed to have released pilot Philip Mehrtens on humanitarian grounds. In the Q&A with the BBC, Egianus also responded to various accusations that emerged from within his group, especially regarding allegations of receiving money from the Indonesian government and his political support for Edison Gwijangge, the former Acting Regent of Nduga. On the other hand, the police and military institutions stated that they would not reduce the intensity of the pursuit of Egianus and the pro-Papuan independence militia which they refer to as "armed criminal groups".
